Tolita Air self-watering flower pot

The Tolita AIR comes in two capacities:

• 3.2 litres of growing medium with a 1.1 litre reservoir;
• 1.3 litres of growing medium with a 0.42 litre reservoir.

Created by the design studio WRKS, it is easy to combine: pair several sizes to create a harmonious plant arrangement.

The Tolita AIR pot is designed for indoor use: houseplants, culinary herbs and orchids, with a growing medium suited to each plant. Its wick watering suits plants that like consistent moisture, and the AIR insert aerates the roots. Plants that need to dry out thoroughly between waterings, such as cacti and succulents, will be less happy in it.

The Tolita AIR indicator works with a small float that rises as the reservoir fills: the water level needs to be high enough for it to start rising. When you first add water, it may take a little while to respond, as the growing medium is still absorbing a lot of water. Refill the reservoir when the indicator is at its lowest. For houseplants and herbs grown in the Tolita AIR, choose a light, free-draining potting compost: the AIR insert aerates the roots, but a mix that is too heavy would stay wet where it touches the wick. For orchids, follow the specific needs of the species. As for fertiliser, vermicompost is used at 30% to 70% potting compost, and compost tea is diluted at 1 part to 9 parts water. Stick to small doses: in a pot without drainage like the Tolita AIR, fertiliser salts build up in the growing medium.
