The Bokashi Urbalive has a 10.6-litre usable capacity, ideal for everyday use in the kitchen. Delivered complete, it includes everything needed to start immediately and compost your food waste easily.
This model stands out for its built-in drawer for collecting fermentation liquid, making it easy to recover the precious Bokashi tea without handling the waste. Its compactor, designed to cover the full width of the bucket, ensures effective compression of organic matter and limits air presence, essential for proper fermentation.
The Bokashi is not a traditional compost bin but rather a fermentation process that eliminates our food waste. It relies on EM (activator) bacteria, which are added to the Bokashi to accelerate the fermentation of organic waste.
The word “bokashi” is a Japanese term meaning “fermented organic matter”. It is fermented with EM (friendly) bacteria. These bacteria will speed up the fermentation process of the organic matter in the composter.
Bokashi has positive effects on the soil, enriching the earth, feeding the garden, and supporting our planet by reducing everyday waste. Making your own compost with a Bokashi is very simple. Thanks to its discreet look, design, and compact format, it’s ideal as a kitchen composter.

The Bokashi EM-1 activator with high fermentation is made by Moutta Farm!

We use raw materials from our region. The wheat bran from Gers (32) and the molasses from Béarn (64).
WHY TWO BOKASHI?
The advantage of the 2-bucket kit:
While the fermentation process is ongoing in the first composter (for 15 days), the second one is available to keep adding new waste (the following 15 days).
We recommend using two Bokashis. Once the first is full, it should remain closed to rest for 2 weeks – letting the food waste ferment. Meanwhile, you can start filling the second bucket!

Advantages
This indoor composter has several benefits:
- See-through drawer for collecting the draining compost tea, avoids stagnation of liquid in the bucket, improving the fermentation of dry waste inside.
- When the compost tea drawer is open, an automatic tap system prevents further liquid from running out.
- The lid features a wide seal, making it completely airtight, and easy to open and close.
- The compactor spans the full width of the bucket, making it easy to compact without getting your hands dirty.
- The bottom has a sieve and 3 interchangeable fabric filters; the filter allows only the compost tea to pass through and prevents blockage of the tap.
- Compact, stylish, and above all odourless – everything is designed so this composter fits perfectly in your home.

Principle and use:
- Put your cooked and uncooked food scraps in the composter.
- Sprinkle two tablespoons of Bokashi activator.
- Compact your waste using the supplied compactor to extract air from the organic matter.
- Keep the lid closed at all times – the less air, the better.
- Drain the excess liquid using the tap at the base of the composter.
When the bucket is full, empty the contents into a small hole or trench in your garden (in the green waste bin, worm composter, or even at the recycling centre).
The waste will be fermented, but not yet decomposed at this stage. It has to be incorporated into the soil to physically decompose into humus. Alternatively, the material from the bucket can be added to your garden compost. For best results, keep this organic matter covered with soil and other compostable materials.
